Hurry Up and Calm Down

One man's attempt to keep himself sane by entertaining himself and others with his skewed view of all things.

A Rainbow

I must've seen a hundred rainbows since I've been in the islands, but each one just seems to take my breath away, despite the best efforts of Mr. Corkall, my high school science teacher. He used to lecture our class on light reflections and refraction, polarization and prisms, but I knew, I knew that that really wasn't what rainbows were all about. So when I got a "C-" on my midterm, Mr. Corkall told me that he was really worried that I would go through life not understanding the importance of geometrical optics. But to tell you the truth, I was a lot more worried Mr. Corkall might go through life not understanding the importance of a rainbow.

Monty Python on Souls

Always loved this exchange early on in Monty Python's The Meaning of Life.

HARRY:  Yeah, I've had a team working on this over the past few weeks, and, uh, what we've come up with can be reduced to two fundamental concepts. One: people are not wearing enough hats. Two: matter is energy. In the universe, there are many energy fields which we cannot normally perceive. Some energies have a spiritual source which act upon a person's soul. However, this soul does not exist ab initio, as orthodox Christianity teaches. It has to be brought into existence by a process of guided self-observation. However, this is rarely achieved, owing to man's unique ability to be distracted from spiritual matters by everyday trivia.

[pause]

GUNTHER: Can I just ask, with reference to your second point, when you say souls don't develop because people become distracted,... [rumble]  ...has anyone noticed that building there before?
